Azulay
8'11" x 2'3"
Material: Wool with cotton warp
Origin: Taznakht, Ouarzazate
A vintage Taznakht runner with a large embroidered block at the center. The "Glaoui" utilizes three techniques in one rug: knotting, weaving and embroidery to achieve a complex arrangement of patterned blocks. The color palette, typical for Taznakht, is burnt sienna, ochre red, orange, and yellow, cream, indigo, olive and azure accents. The border is a beautiful chain of protective symbols in indigo, cream, and ochre red and yellow. Two tufts of yarn to each side wave with a flourish to the central embroidered block. This style of carpet is reversible; the back is as worthy as the front. The tightly woven wool also has the added bonus of being exceptionally easy to maintain, so it is a perfect choice for someone with pets. In excellent condition, flat weave and short pile, unbraided cotton fringe intact.
